Fuel stations in Croatia. Beware of unfair practices

Fuel stations are always a bit overcrowded in high season, so we’ve prepared a list of places you can top up on fuel for your boat. But you’ll need to be very careful at some of them.

Unfortunately, certain fuelling stations in Croatia might still rip you off. They will be noted with a question mark in 777 Harbours & Anchorages Pilot Book - Eastern Adriatic, and they specifically concern points at Rab, Zadar, Sukošan, Murtera, and Šibenik. Before refuelling, don't get distracted, double-check that the gauge has been reset and that the quantity indicated on the pump is correct before paying. One member of the crew should ideally observe the entire refuelling procedure.


Be cautious of the following behaviour:

  • Staff at the filling station are overly helpful and friendly — they will try to distract you from a fuel meter that has not been reset.
  • A staff member takes the pump nozzle from a stand that has its display facing away from the sea — particularly at refuelling stations for boats and cars (Sukošan and Šibenik).
  • The attendant tells you the card payment terminal is not working and that they would like you to pay in cash.


If you arrive at a fuel station at your destination harbour on a Friday afternoon, you may have to wait in line for several hours. You'll could end up circling around, hoping that nobody jumps the queue. If you want to avoid this stress, we recommend refuelling on a Friday morning at a station along the way and buying a few extra litres in a canister, which you can then use to top up after reaching your destination.
