Yachting in the Eastern Gulf of Thailand

If you're setting sail in the eastern part of the Gulf, typically from Koh Chang marina, here are some top places to explore.

Don't miss Koh Chang

Also known as Elephant Island due to its shape, Koh Chang is a haven of untouched natural beauty. About 70% of the island is covered in lush forests, mountains, and beaches. The most popular beaches here include Klong Prao, Ao Bai Lan, Klong Son, and Haad Sai Khao, known for its white sand. While you’re here, we recommend visiting the beautiful Klong Neung waterfall, renting a kayak, or heading out for a jungle trek. Don’t miss the chance to snorkel or dive—there’s plenty of marine life to see.

Anchoring: Koh Chang is a five-star spot for anchoring, with a wide choice of anchorages and few charter boats around, making it easy to find a peaceful berth for the night.

Virgin island of Koh Kood (Koh Kut)

Koh Kood is a gem, offering some of the most unspoiled spots in Thailand. The beaches here rival those of the Maldives or the Philippines in beauty, with Tinkerbell Beach, Klong Chao Beach, Ao Tapao, and Ao Phrao being our top picks. You’ll find pure nature and a slower pace of life, perfect for those looking to unwind.

Anchorage: You can anchor right in front of Tinkerbell Beach, which offers a stunning view and easy access to the shore.

Beaches on Koh Kood

The beaches on Koh Kood are comparable to those in the Maldives or the Philippines.

Relax on the island of Koh Mak (Koh Maak)

Koh Mak is perfect for those looking for peace and quiet. Less popular than its neighbours, this island is all about relaxation. You won’t find much nightlife here, so if you’re looking for bars and shopping, you might want to look elsewhere. However, if you enjoy hiking or cycling, we recommend exploring the island’s scenic routes, where you can see coconut palm and rubber tree plantations. Koh Mak’s beaches are beautifully natural, uncrowded, and untouched by development.

Anchorage: We recommend dropping anchor in 5 to 10 metres of water north of Koh Mak Pier. Just be careful to stay clear of motorboat routes.

Koh Wai Island in the national park

Koh Wai, part of Mu Ko Chang National Park, offers breathtaking views of neighbouring islands. With its jungle interior, sandy beaches on the east coast, and rugged west coast, it’s also home to a variety of nesting birds. Inland, you’ll find a serene escape from the world.

Anchorage. The best place to anchor for the night is a small bay on the island’s southwest side. When anchoring, be careful to avoid dragging the anchor along the bed to protect the coral.

The many faces of Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is famous for its beautiful beaches and laid-back vibe for most of the year. However, it’s also known for transforming into a party paradise during Full Moon and New Year’s celebrations. During these times, Haad Rin beach comes alive with fireworks, fire shows, DJs, and non-stop dancing until dawn. We recommend it for those looking to experience the legendary Full Moon party.

Anchoring: Tharn Sadet Bay with Haad Nam Tok Beach offers a good anchorage at about 8 metres. The ground is sandy, and a short walk takes you to a waterfall with wonderful views.

It’s an absolutely incredible experience—a must-see for anyone who loves nighttime adventures. From the energy to the unforgettable atmosphere, this party is truly one of a kind!

Koh Samui: the island that has it all

Koh Samui truly has it all — beautiful beaches, luxury beach clubs (including the famous Nikki Beach), yoga centres, golf courses, and scenic jungle hikes. For those interested in culture, the island is also home to a giant golden Buddha and several temples. If you’re looking for activities, there’s even a Thai boxing centre to visit. We recommend Koh Samui for travellers looking for variety and adventure.

Anchorage: A good choice for an overnight stay is Petcherat Marina. Although it’s a bit pricier for Thailand, anchoring in the bay near the marina is an option if you’d like to save.

Underwater world of Koh Tao

Koh Tao offers one of the best snorkelling and diving experiences in Thailand. Dive schools are plentiful and well-rated, and we recommend a visit to Thian Og Bay, also known as Shark Bay, where you may spot blacktip reef sharks. Don’t miss a stop at Juea Beach for a relaxed beach day or another dive spot.

Anchoring: Anchoring is restricted in some areas to protect the coral reefs, so it’s essential to anchor responsibly and follow guidelines to preserve the ecosystem.
