  • Smiths Falls: located in the heart of Eastern Ontario on the banks of the historic Rideau Canal. Smiths Falls offers a unique blend of recreational activities with a subtle touch of history and nature. Smiths Falls harbours a rich heritage — museums, theatres, art galleries and outdoor adventures including hiking, biking and fishing.
  • Beveridge: When the Rideau Canal was built, there was no water connection to Perth. Residents built the Tay Canal. This area is known as "Haggart's Ditch" and offers some of the best wildlife viewing on the Rideau en route to Perth.
  • Rideau Ferry: Stretching along a thin strip of water between the Great and Lower Rideau Lakes, Rideau Ferry is a spectacular scenic gateway to the southern Rideau. A crossroads between breathtaking concerts and festivals throughout the summer. Not to forget the Vintage Boat Regatta, first held here in 1897.
  • Portland: Portland is a small village located on Big Rideau Lake. There are many opportunities to both spend time in the Portland area. The year-round Cataraqui trail passes just east of town, there are golf courses nearby, one of myB&Bs offer horseback riding, and cheese lovers will want to visit the local cheese factories and wineries.
  • Westport: Westport is a charming village. Here you'll find public docking facilities and a variety of land-based accommodations. The town offers plenty of activities: shops, two golf courses and a swimming pool. Nature lovers will enjoy a trip to the Foley Conservation Area, which has spectacular views of the surrounding area.
  • Newboro: The village of Newboro is a popular destination for anglers looking to land one of the large Largemouth Bass that populate Lake Newboro. It is also a popular stop for boaters as Newboro is a short distance from the Newboro Lockstation on the Rideau Canal. Be sure to restock your supplies here or enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner at one of the local restaurants or inns. Don't miss out on a unique shopping experience located in the heart of historic Newboro and adjacent to the dining room in the original 1832 residence.
  • Chaffey's Lockstation: Chaffey's Lockstation sits on a beautiful hillside of land situated between Indian Lake and Lake Opinicon. The Chaffey's Lock and Area Heritage Society was founded in 1980 to oversee the development of the Lockmaster's House Museum and preserve the heritage of the village and surrounding area.
  • Jones Falls: Jones Falls has to be one of the most beautiful locks along the canal. Lockstation is home to the "Great Stone Arch Dam."
