What is cancellation insurance?

Cancellation insurance covers you if you are forced to cancel your boating holiday for serious reasons — not only the boat rental itself but also for the journey (e.g. flights).

Why take out cancellation insurance?

Are you one of those people who simply assume everything will work out as planned? We've all heard of Murphy's law, and while 95% of the time nothing goes wrong, unforeseen circumstances can make going on holiday difficult or impossible. If this happens to you, you don't want to lose all of your money. Take a look at 7 reasons why it pays to take out cancellation insurance.

What is covered?

  • Involuntary loss of employment
  • Serious acute illnesses or accidents that prevent the insured person from travelling
  • Death of the insured person or a person close to them
  • Serious act of violence against the insured person or a person close to them
  • Health complications during pregnancy up to the 26th week
  • Filing for divorce
  • Unexpected summons to appear in court
  • Event caused by a natural disaster (such as fire, flood or hurricane) occurring no more than 5 days before the start of the trip that damages your property
  • Unavoidable accident

What is not covered?

  • Cancellation of travel in the event that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not recommend or the government prohibits travel to a destination, or the area is closed by local authorities. Check the specific terms and conditions of your insurance policy
  • Concern about COVID-19
  • Failure of the employer to grant leave
  • Failure to obtain a visa or invalid travel documents
  • Chronic or acute illness or injury, if it existed at the time the insurance policy was taken out, even if it has not been treated up to that time
  • Failure to obtain mandatory vaccinations or reactions to them
  • Periodic check-ups, going for a spa treatment or planned surgery
  • Situations where the tour could not be carried out by the tour operator
  • Situations where the skipper is not insured on the same application form as all insured persons travelling on the boat

CANCELLATION INSURANCE gives you peace of mind that you won't lose all the money if you are forced to cancel your holiday for urgent reasons

How much does cancellation insurance cover?

The insurance company will cover 80 % of the proven cancellation fees paid, up to a maximum of €12 260. Your deductible is 20 %.

How much does cancellation insurance cost?

The cost of cancellation insurance is 5.5 % of the total charter price. For example, if you rented a Bavaria 37 sailing yacht for €1,500, the cancellation insurance for the boat charter will cost you €84 = 1,500 / 100 x 5.5.
