From Lake Ree, take the northern route along the Shannon River to the town of Lannesborough. From there, drive through Clondara or Tarmonbarry to Roosky, which has a turbulent history as the site of many rebellions. Dromod, or Drumod, is a renowned fishing village. Continue on via Carrick on Shannon and Boyle, which lie on the shores of the Key, to the village of Leitrim. The latter was an important strategic point in medieval times due to its location. The last point on the route is Drumshanbo, a small town with traditional Irish pubs.

The Shannon–Erne Waterway, with 16 automatic locks, connects the Erne with other Irish rivers and canals from the north. The Erne, which is 63 km long, boasts more than 30 magnificent bridges. This river will take you through the typical Irish countryside, where you will have the opportunity to experience Irish folklore for yourself.
