If you love fishing and angling, then the 'lower' Shannon and Shannon Harbour is just right for you. In Shannonbridge you will see the magnificent historic bridge over the river and the fort. Continue south to Banagher, where you can visit the town of Portumna and its magnificent Renaissance castle. The castle's French-style gardens will take your breath away! A variety of fish species await you in the waters of Lake Dergh. In the village of Terryglass, admire the magnificent monastery dating back to the 6th century.

You don't need a permit to fish. Fishing is the number one sport in Ireland and catch-and-release fishing is not infrequently practised.
