The network of gentle streams and canals in Burgundy will guide those who do not like to rush, love good wine and food and want to enjoy the scenery around them, a landscape of dense forests, jagged rocks and mountain scenery, but also rolling pastures, vineyards and a peaceful atmosphere. Fontenoy-le-Château, protected by the Vosges Mountains, and nearby Corre are typical medieval market towns of the Comté region on the banks of the Canal de Vosges. Stunning châteaux await you in Scey-sur-Saône and Ray-sur-Saône, where summer festivals and art exhibitions are held. One of our bases is in Gray, which has a rich trading history, while the old garrison port town of Auxonne on the Petit Saône is where Napoleon began his military career. Saint-Jean-de-Losne is the crossroads of the Burgundian waterways. From here, the Canal de Bourgogne leads to Dijon, the capital of the region, famous for its opulent buildings with lavish facades and rich history - and of course, famous for its mustard! Heading east, you'll sail along the Canal du Rhône au Rhin to Dole and Besançon, towns with a colourful history and heritage that are well worth a visit.
