There’s a powerful wind blowing, you firmly grasp the steering wheel but the waves send you on an unavoidable collision course with a rock. At first, you are afraid for the crew but soon this changes into concerns regarding the amount and extent of the damage to the yacht. Is the damage even covered by insurance?
What to look for when choosing insurance
Fortunately there’s no need to panic, as damage to the yacht can be taken care of easily and the costs are generally covered by insurance. However, when shopping around for insurance, do check the extent of the coverage they offer as some companies exclude some of the more common types of damage.
Insurance from yachting.com covers damages that other insurance companies don’t even offer. In fact, if our clients experience a new type of damage, which might not be covered, we’ll immediately cover this new type of damage in our deposit insurance.

Damage to the keel and rudder
The next accident successfully sorted out is best described by the client themself:
"On May 1, 2018, we wanted to anchor at Folegandros Island. Upon arrival at the Karavostasis marina, we got the rudder caught on a rock below the surface which we hadn’t found on any of the maps. This damaged a portion of the keel and rudder underwater. After discovering the extent of the damage, we contacted the charter company Hermes Yachting, who ferried one of their employees to us. He arrived in the morning and along with the crew members made a temporary repair so that we could get back to our home port of Athens."
