Rental of a houseboat even without a yachtmaster’s certificate
Are you thinking about renting a houseboat, but have never piloted a boat before, let alone hold a yachtmaster’s certificate? That doesn’t matter! You can rent any houseboat from our boat catalogue and set off without any licence or experience. Our experienced team will familiarise you with the principles of steering a houseboat, the technique for navigating locks and other important manoeuvres as well as providing you with training in the harbour. After this brief training, you will receive a permit for the duration of your trip. The only exception to this is Germany (Berlin and Potsdam) where a licence is required, this being a Small Vessel Captain’s Licence for inland sailing.
Most popular destinations
Europe offers countless, beautiful places which you can particularly appreciate from the deck of a river boat. Although a lot of these places are worth visiting and we know it is difficult to choose, you basically can’t go wrong. However, some of the popular destinations cannot be missed when cruising in a houseboat.
One such destination is France, which offers the largest network of canals in the whole of Europe and will captivate you with its romance, superb wine and gastronomy, medieval monuments, and beautiful countryside. Renting a houseboat in France is thus a deservedly and truly sought-after holiday. From the nine cruising areas on offer, the most popular and also the most beautiful canal is the Canal du Midi. This canal, which is quite rightly a UNESCO heritage site, is picturesque thanks to the ubiquitous sycamores protecting its banks that transform into the most wonderful combinations of colour in the autumn. A dominant feature of this cruise is the medieval Carcassonne castle, but the Canal du Midi is also attractive for all the other things which are part of the beauty of a cruise on a houseboat in France.
We recommend you also consider combining a trip on a houseboat with a visit to Holland. This country offers both smaller, picturesque villages with windmills and also the livelier cities, top of the list being the cosmopolitan Amsterdam, characterised by its many canals, creating a calm and easy-going atmosphere in an otherwise bustling city.
