Bertram YachtsRichard Bertram founded Bertram Boats in 1961 after he introduced the now legendary Bertram 31 at the New York Boat show. Originally was originally showcased at the 1960 Miami-Nassau powerboat race, it demonstrated outstanding maneuverability during the race’s poor weather and heavy seas. It had a fiberglass construction, with stern drives, deep-vee design, and larger engines than its predecessors. Bertram was impressed by the fiberglass powerboats that raced in the America’s Cup trials in 1958. Sporting a fiberglass design construction with stern drives, deep-vee design, and larger engines, it outperformed its competitors. As a result, Bertram set about designing the Moppie, the powerboat that would set the design standard for many of Bertram’s boats for years to come. To this day, Bertram boats are still best known for their simple, practical designs that offer both comfort and durability. Many of their current models are still based on the Bertram 31, including the Fly Bridge Cruiser, the Sportsfish, the Bahia Mar, and the Moppie. Each is known for their seaworthiness, reliability and straightforward construction. The Fly Bridge Cruiser is fitted with a cabin with bridge and aft cabin bulkhead whilst the Bertram Express is a more substantial craft for serious seamen. |
