Sport Yachts ReviewNot everyone can afford new sports yachts, but the present financial climate has meant that there are plenty of pre-owned boats on the market. Owning a sports yacht is rather like owning a floating Lamborghini or Maserati – they are the ultimate of luxury when it comes to ocean leisure cruising. There’s a wide spectrum of makes and models to choose from, including such illustrious names as Tiara, Sea Ray and Viking. You can expect a pair of powerful diesel engines to give a top speed of 30 knots with a cruising speed of some 25 knots. Standard items on many pre-owned sports yachts will include long range fuel tanks, satellite TV with DVD player and Hi-fi, a head and a separate shower and VHF radio. There are usually sleeping berths for at least four people and there is a roomy and well equipped galley. The one thing that you won’t get when buying a pre-owned sport yacht is customization. What you see is generally what you get. Expect a good cross section of instrumentation on the bridge, and lots of comfort. The cost of a pre-owned sport yacht is extremely variable – for the upper range and newer boats expect six or seven figures though. Sports yachts can be found in most major yacht listings. |
