Wally Yachts Review

Wally Yachts is a maritime design company based in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Began in 1994 by Italian businessman Luca Bassani, Wally produces high-end sail and motor yachts. In 2009, Wally joined with the Hermes group to develop a new business using the acronym WHY (Wally-Hermes Yachts). WHY describes their crafts as capable of providing space, stability, movement, independence and peace. WHY dedicates their work to a new lifestyle of living on the sea. Wally is the originator of the largest yacht in the world at 325 feet, WallyIsland.

Among the renowned vessels supplied by Wally is the 118 WallyPower, the 118-footer featured in the movie, The Island. The yacht carries a narrow and angular design with black glass housing, Vericor TF50 gas turbines. This boat is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 60 knots. The 118 WallyPower has an open layout for the deck, cockpit, navigation station, dining and saloon areas. Ther is a 360-degree view from the dining room.

On a smaller scale is the WHY 58x38. This yacht has four decks, main, upper, owners and wheelhouse with 25-meter interior pool and a 36-meter beach along the backside. The WHY 58x38 yacht uses a diesel electric 2,400 kW propulsion system with an optional auxiliary SkySails propulsion. The ship is solar powered with photovoltaic panels and batteries that store energy. WHY attempts to develop yachts with an environmental impact, to meet that goal, the design team equipped the WHY 58x38 with a bilge water separator, wastewater division purification system, rainwater reserve and low impact anti-fouling paint.

Pricing

WHY yachts are extreme and expensive, luxury vessels. The Daily News lists the price of a new WHY 58x38 at $160 million and the smaller WHY 37x24 sells for $64 million.

Pros

  • Yachts from WHY are described by reviewers as floating islands. The ships built for living, will have everything one needs to sustain a long voyage.

Cons

  • Most yachts produced by WHY will be out of the average buyers price range.

Conclusion

WHY lives and builds by the concept of life at sea, and it shows in the yachts they make. This is a company well known for providing high-end out of this world luxury. The two designs currently listed in the WHY portfolio have extravagant features such as stainless steel gourmet galleys, skylights and man made beaches. The pricing for one yacht from WHY runs in the millions. This is not your typical day cruiser but an elegant home on the water.
