Tartan Yachts ReviewSummaryTartan Yachts, founded in 1960 by Charlie Britton, is now a largely successful sailboat manufacturer. Charlie built their first model as a collaborative effort between himself and a man named Ollie Stevens. Though the company is based out of Ohio, there is a second manufacturing plant located in Hamlet, North Carolina. Instead of using all wood construction, the company was among the first to make the switch to fiberglass hulls. Though the company started out small, it now produces a total of eight models designed to suit any sailor’s need. Dealers are located in: Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington State. Dealers are also located in Canada, several locations throughout Europe, Australia and Japan for international customers. PricingPricing for brand new Tartan Yachts is not available on the manufacturer’s website as this is determined by the dealer. Those who are interested in learning more about purchasing a brand new boat should contact their local dealer to schedule a test drive. Those who are interested in used boats will find a large list of offerings as the company is part of the Yacht Brokers Associations of America. Offices are located in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island and Virginia. This service is also ideal for those who want to sell their Tartan Yacht. We were able to find used models ranging from $49,900 to $168,500 which make these sailboats affordable for many. Pros
Cons
Featured ModelsThe Tartan Yacht fleet includes: the 3400, 3700, 3700 CCR, 4100, 4300, 4400, 5100, and 5300. There are also “classic” models no longer in production, but these are not listed on the company website. ConclusionWe can certainly see that Tartan Yachts are highly respected in the sail boating community. With the number of models available and extensive dealer network, combined with the extensive yacht brokerage network, finding a new or used Tartan is easy when compared to other manufacturers on the market today. The company has 50 years of experience and history in the industry, something many yacht and sailboat manufacturers today cannot claim. |
