Sparkman & Stephens Yachts Review

Sparkman Stephens Yachts was founded 75 years ago by brothers Olin and Roderick Stephens in Barnstable Bay, Massachusetts. They had originally eased their way into the industry due to working at the world-famous Nevins Yard in New York as well as working alongside yacht broker, Drake Sparkman. Soon after they had finally decided to launch their company with their other partner, Drake Sparkman and Sparkman & Stephens Inc. was formed. Their first racing yacht, Dorade, had won the 1931 Trans-Atlantic Race, which ultimately skyrocketed Sparkman & Stephens reputation in the boating industry.

Sparkman & Stephens has released over 2,600 different yacht designs for every type of owner, whether it be for pleasure, commercial, or military purposes. In recent years, the company has launched two departments, one for strictly naval architecture and marine engineering, and the other for brokerage, and insurance. They use the most advanced technology, 3D modeling, as well as velocity prediction programs and consistent tank testing in order to create models that will last for generations. Sparkman & Stephens is known not only domestically, but internationally, as each of their brokers and charters are constantly going abroad to showcase new models. Some of their most famous pleasure yachts include the Stormy Weather, Clarion of Wight, Running Tide, among several others. The International Superyacht Society has given awards to Sparkman & Stephens’ models including Victoria of Strathearn, Venturosa, and MitseaAH, which all received Best Sailing Yacht in their category. Their Production Line includes models that come in different sizes in the Blue Jay class and Lightning class. They have created a Commercial Line which includes passenger/car ferries ranging from 60 to 165 feet, using a 540 foot cargo area. Sparkman & Stephens also has a Military Line in which they have created prestigious models for the US Navy and Marines.
