Scout Yachts Review

Summary

Scott Potts is the CEO and President of Scout Boats, Inc. The company first started in 1988 when Scott and his wife purchased a small building to start building their own boats. The building was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo, which sent Scott back to the drawing board, but didn’t stop him from continuing to pursue his dream of building boats. Thanks to an Atlanta Boat Show in 1990, Scott was able to catch the break he needed and watch Scout Boats get its start. Now the company is successful and operates out of Summerville, South Carolina.

Pricing

There is no pricing information available to the general public. Interested buyers should contact a local dealer to request a quote. Used boats are located throughout the country and are listed at anywhere from $17,000 to $299,000. The overall price varies based on the year, model, features, condition, and location of the boat.

Pros

  • There is a three year stern to stern warranty, in addition to a 10 year limited warranty.
  • The boats are NMMA Certified with ABYC standards--the same used by the United States Coast Guard.

Cons

  • The website is not user friendly, because it takes some work to locate company information.
  • Little information is available about what the boating community thinks of these boats.

Conclusion

Scout Boats has endured their share of struggles to get the company up and running but over the years has seen great success. While it certainly isn’t the oldest manufacturer on the market, it holds its own with its customers. There are several different boat models and styles to choose from which makes it an excellent place for many boaters to start. With the moderate pricing compared to some major boat and yacht companies, these are very affordable boats for most buyers. Before contacting a local dealer, it is wise to think about what you want in your boat, what you need in your boat, what you’re willing to go without in your boat, and what your budget is. This will help you quickly determine the right kind of boat for you. Interested buyers can also schedule a test drive with a local dealer.
