Phoenix Yachts Review

Phoenix Yachts was founded in 1977, and the first boat they built was the Phoenix 29 Convertible, a boat that became extremely popular. The company followed up with a series of new designs and quickly gathered a reputation for its originality. The company believed in incorporating comfort into its designs, especially in the cabin areas of its boats, and a good example of this can be seen in the 27-foot Tournament design. In this boat there is a roomy sensible galley that has an alcohol stove with twin burners, a roomy fridge, a locker for dishes and a large fiberglass sink. The “U” shaped lounge and dining nook are close to the galley and there’s plenty of room to sit. They switch into a big double berth when needed. The cockpit is extremely large with fantastic visibility all round from wherever you are sitting. The helmsman ends up right in the middle of all the action, and there is plenty of space for electronic gear and nav aids at his console. A downturn in the economy and a luxury tax brought problems, and the company had to wind up in 1994. Efforts to bring the company back to life were to no avail, until Carl Herndon took over the lead and Phoenix Yachts became part of the Jupiter Marine Group. Herndon’s boats are conventional in both their planning and building. They are always well finished and aimed at skilled boaters who are serious about their fishing and boating. There are plenty of Phoenix boats on the market right now, and there should be no problem in picking up a bargain with a little shopping around.

    Conclusion

The design team at Phoenix Yachts spent lots of time in designing a practical fishing boat for the sportsman who also like his comfort. The Phoenix 27 Tournament design is a roomy and steady boat with lots of clear space in the cockpit. If you’re looking for a small fishing boat for yourself and a couple of friends, or for taking out a small family, these boats are well worth looking at. They’re not large luxury yachts, but they’re practical, and they do the job.
