Palmer Johnson Yachts ReviewPalmer Johnson an American company, originally founded in 1918 as Johnson and Gmack, builds custom luxury yachts. The company started out in humble beginnings, building and repairing boats for the Great Lakes commercial fishing fleet. They continued to do so until 1928, when the founder’s son, Palmer Johnson, built the company’s first wooden yacht. With it, orders began to pour in. As the United States entered the Second World War the company, then known as Sturgeon Bay Boat Works, began producing 45’ air-sea rescue vessels and 65’ T-class freighters. In 1956, the company was officially renamed Palmer Johnson Boats and sold. In 1961, it began producing aluminum yachts, and in 2004 Palmer Johnson was purchased by Andrew McKelvey, creator of Monster.com. The current owner’s vision is to produce large semi-custom Sports Yachts as opposed to traditional customer tri-deck yachts. It’s this vision that has lead Palmer Johnson to re-enter the luxury market with big strides. Palmer Johnson now builds several high-profile sports yachts with designers Nuvolari and Lenard, ranging from 120’ to 150 feet. They have offices in the United States and France, and shipbuilding is done in both the United States and Norway. Combined with this, and using advanced marine technology and bold designs, Palmer Johnson Yachts leads the market in the field of luxury mega yachts construction. PricingPrices are all in the superyacht categories and depend on the customization of the boat ordered. A Palmer Johnson Moon River 1997 model for example can cost $ 4,500,000, while a 2006 MUSE can fetch $ 11,900,000. Pros
