Pacific Mariner ReviewFounded in 1996 by the Edson family, Pacific Mariner (PM) quickly became a competitive provider of quality cruising yachts. Using proven Naval Architecture by designer Bill Garden and professional craftsmanship, Pacific Mariner continues to focus on meeting the demands of its appreciative and loyal customers. With his “no compromises” on quality and workmanship, the Pacific Mariner founder, Jack Edson came by the boat building business quite naturally since his father, Orin Edson, was the founder of Bayliner Boats. Quality not quantity is the focus of business as this company builds a limited number of yachts each year. Now owned by the Westport Yacht Company, Pacific Mariner enjoys the entry level position at the Westport mega yacht roll call. Design and quality are at the forefront for Pacific Mariner. Each yacht is numbered and interior finishes are installed as per the customer’s instructions. Prior to release the yacht undergoes test drives to ensure that the performance and handling match the expectations of the designer. Not resting on their laurels, they continue to identify improvements to the design and refine improvements. Skilled craftsmen complete all areas of construction onsite at the factory, from fiberglass hulls to cherry wood cabinetry. Dovetail accents on drawers and polished furniture outline the Pacific Mariner testament to quality. Designed with optimum quality, Pacific Mariner is considered a turnkey yacht, “all you have to do is bring your toothbrush”. The spacious staterooms and bedrooms offer owners and guests optimum quality, comfort and style, which include pop-up flat screen TVs, entertainment systems with surround sound and attractive upholstery. The galley features granite counter tops and KitchenAid appliances. The master suite has a separate entrance and stairway that is situated amid ship for the least motion. Thought and design have gone into the placement of the engines for ease of accessibility. Two standard 1500-horsepower diesel engines provide power to the yacht. Sound insulation has been improved with the addition of 3-M insulation. Other insulation features are included to provide a silent and vibration free cruise at all speeds. PricingPacific Mariner yachts are priced on a per order basis, but often cost around $4.5 million. Prices may vary depending on the size and the interior finishes of each yacht. The prices of teak, mahogany and other features do fluctuate, which can cause changes in the prices quoted. Used vessels range from $1.4 million for a 2007 PM65 model to $800,000 for earlier models. Cons
Featured ModelsPacific Mariner has developed two main models, the Pacific Mariner 65 and the 85. ConclusionThe spacious and well equipped Pacific Mariner yachts offer a quality ride with excellent power. Test drivers are astounded by the quietness of the engines. The superior soundproofing has reduced sound levels at cruising speed to 66 decibels, which is considered as “normal conversation at 3 to 5 feet”. With cruising speed of 25 knots, the smooth ride is only outweighed by the comfort and quality that is offered. Throttle back to a cruising speed of 15 knots and the Pacific Mariner 85 will use approximately 42 gallons of diesel per hour. |
