Northern Inc. Yachts Review

Northern Inc. Yachts, usually referred to as Northern Marine Yachts, was founded in 1995 by Richard LeMieux. Prior to opening his own company, LeMieux was employed for Delta Marine for more than twenty years. As their production manager, he was well placed to learn exactly what the yachting community was hungry for. He saw the potential for a new niche of luxury yachts made in the style of the Northwest trawler fishing fleets. He envisioned yachts that would be capable of going anywhere their owners wished to take them. He decided to locate his business a bit north of Seattle in Anacortes, Washington.

The first yacht built by the new company was a 58’ trawler yacht. It was well received but it quickly became apparent that there was a strong demand for larger versions. They quickly accommodated their customers with a 63’ version and now have yachts that reach 151’. The company has grown quickly, in part because the niche for luxury expedition yachts is so small and their versions have become so popular. Northern Marine now employs more than 250 people who work to create the perfect yacht for each customer whether that is a semi-displacement motor yacht or an expedition cruiser. The company takes pride in the work and skills of their employees and offers guided tours by appointment for potential customers.

Pricing

Due to the custom build of each yacht, new prices must be obtained directly from the company. Previously owned Northern Marine yachts can be found from about $2 million to nearly $30 million, depending upon the year of construction, model, and options selected at the time of purchase.

Pros

  • All vessels are truly custom built to owner specifications.
  • The company is well respected in the yachting community.

Cons

  • The larger yachts are prohibitively expensive for the average yachting enthusiast.

Featured Models

Some of the most popular models from Northern Marine includes one of the most recent luxury yachts, the 151 tri-deck as well as several long range cruisers such as the 86 Tri-deck, 80 Tri-deck, 80 raised pilothouse, 64 raised pilothouse, and the 57 raised pilothouse.

Conclusion

While Northern Marine Yachts has been in business for less than twenty years it has quickly become a leader in its niche, expedition yachts. The unique design and attention to detail, however, can quickly bring the expedition yachts out of the price range of the average person. Fortunately, the company also offers smaller and more affordable models that are still built to the exacting standards of the larger more expensive options. With the more affordable models as well as the previously owned Northern Marine yachts, it is possible for almost anyone to have one of these exceptional yachts.
