Legendary Yachts Review

Summary

Legendary Yachts claims that ever since it became a licensed yacht broker, its vessels have been receiving interest throughout the world. The company has traditionally built wooden yachts in power and sail. On the one hand, it makes very traditional boats, but on the other hand, it does update its vessels and try to make them look trendy. The company’s main slogan is “Bringing the best of the past into the future.” Legendary Yachts President Stan Bishoprick says his company takes a lot of pride in the company’s history. Some of its designers’ work can be found in museums and universities, according to the company. One of the company’s best known designers was writer Francis Herreshoff.

Pricing

A S/V Radiance, 72’ Ketch, costs about $2.5 million, a S/V Mistral, 64’ ketch, costs about $1.3 million, a S/V Bounty, 58’ Ketch, costs about $1.35 million, a S/V Aramita, 33’ ketch, cost $180,000, and an M/V Escort, 40’ commuter launch, costs $585,000.

Pros

  • The company takes a lot of pride in four of its key designers - Herreshoff, Stephens, Alden and Rhodes.
  • Many agree that several of the company’s vessels, such as the Mistral, look extremely majestic.
  • The boats are unique looking.
  • The company has a long track record. For example, Francis Herreshoff designed the 63’ Mistral more than 60 years ago.

Cons

  • Legendary Yachts can be expensive, some of them costing more than $2 million.
  • Some customers may feel uneasy about the company’s overwhelming reliance on wood.
  • The company seems to focus on a niche customer base, perhaps leaving out many others who may think they boats are too traditional-looking.
  • Some may argue that the company relies too heavily on the past, while it should be working harder to learn more about the changes in the industry.

Featured Models

Legendary Yachts’ models include the S/V Radiance, S/V Mistral, S/V Bounty, S/V Aramita, and M/V Escort.

Conclusion

There’s no doubt that Legendary Yachts are unique. But many would also agree that they’re not built for everyone. The company uses wood much more than many other companies do, and some of the company’s standards may not appeal to many customers who are looking to purchase something more modern looking. That’s not to say that they’re ugly. At least one review refers to the Mistral as “majestic,” and the company does emphasize that it is focusing on the future. The review also refers to it a “new old” boat.

The company no doubt has good reason to be proud of some of its designers, such as the famous Francis Herreshoff. But Herrenshoff has been dead for more than 30 years. History will show whether the company’s reliance on its history will strengthen it or harm it.
