Ingo Pfotenhauer Yachts Review

Summary

Ingo Pfotenhauer has a varied background as the skipper of one of the world’s largest yachts, the “Virginian”; as an airplane pilot; and as an owner’s representative in the design and construction of custom-built yachts. His business ventures include the Commerce Trading Sales Corporation which was started in 1985 but no longer remains an active entity and Izerwaren, Inc. which is a Ft. Lauderdale, Florida based provider for shipping industry hardware from around the world. Based on his observations as captain, in 2003 Ingo Pfotenhauer Yachts manufactured a 16 foot 39,600 pound vessel called “Gentleman’s Day Cruiser 53”. This boat was designed for entertaining, rather than traveling to any particular destination. It boasts two 300 hp diesel engines, runs at a maximum of 22 knots and is built for parties. The cockpit is large enough to double as a dance floor or serve a sit-down meal to as many as 12 guests. However, it is not designed for long journeys by a crowd. There is only one head, the galley is small and the only place to sleep is a settee which can convert to a double bed.

Another project was the 60 meter “Linda Lou” (built by Lürssen Yachts with Espen Oeino expanding on the design of “Capri” and Francois Zuretti creating the interior details) and the 47.9 meter “Lady Linda” (built by Trinity Yachts). Both were designed and built for the same family with the help of Ingo Pfotenhauer as owner’s representative. The “Lady Linda” survived Hurricane Katrina and was delivered at the same time as the “Linda Lou” in 2006. His job for these simultaneous projects was to insure the implementation of the owners’ expectations. However, Pfotenhauer also referred back to his experience as a crew member in the design of these luxurious vessels. The crews’ sleeping quarters, galley, and working spaces reflect ingenuity and careful consideration of the comfort and efficiency of all on board, not just the owners.

Pricing

Since none of the Ingo Pfotenhauer Yachts are up for sale, there are no published prices at the present time.

Pros

  • Custom-built yachts mirror the lifestyle and priorities of each individual owner.
  • The price of used yachts is very compatible to that of new yachts and there is little fear of being stuck with one boat without options to expand.

Cons

  • Price would seem to be an issue with a custom-built yacht, but not to the normal yacht clientele.
  • A new yacht could take several years from contract signing to launching, especially if the shipyard gets hit by a hurricane.

Featured Models

The Ingo Pfotenhauer Yachts are custom-built with a variety of shipyards, naval architects and designers. They are genuinely suited to the individual needs of each customer.
