Feadship Holland Yachts ReviewSummaryThe Feadship Holland Yacht company is the result of a joint venture between three Dutch ship builders: De Vries, Van Lent, and De Voogt. The company has a subsidiary named Feadship America Yachts operating out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Feadship is celebrating over 60 years of custom building megayachts. However, the company has historical roots dating back to 1877. 1949 is an important year in Feadship history. Feadship is officially launched after an Amsterdam meeting between Cees Van Lent and Hendrik and Johannes de Vries. Ravaged by World War II, Feadship decides to market, sell, and export its boats to America, whose economy and land was not nearly as ravaged by World War II. A second meeting in 1949 results in the addition of Henri de Voogt, a naval architect. He accepts the responsibility to design future Feadship ocean vessels. The following decades witness the addition and departure of some employees but not compromising the standards established by Feadship that have come to be expected by boat owners. PricingPrices of Feadship yachts range from $495,000 (1964 86’ model) to $131 million (2009 214’ model). Pros
Cons
Featured ModelsOne featured model released in 2004 is the 86 meter (about 258 feet) Ecstassea. At the time of its release, this may be the largest Feadship boat built in its illustrious history. Another featured model is the 2009 65 meter (about 195 feet) Pestifer (2,360bhp, 42,260- gallon fuel capacity, 12,550-gallon water capacity). Also released in 2009 were the Ocean Victory, Hurricane Run, and the Trident. Ocean Victory is 75 meters (about 225 feet) long, has a speed of 16.5 knots, a 50,193-gallon fuel tank, and a 13,209-gallon water capacity. The Hurricane Run is 53.5 meters (about 165 feet). The two Caterpillar 12-cylinder engines produce 1,500bhp at 1,600 rpm. It has a speed of 15 knots and can hold 26,690 gallons of fuel and 7,555 gallons of water. This boat (like its similar model in the High Chaparral) is named a prize winning race horse. Its color is anthracite (grey) and it is different from the High Chaparral in that one staircase has been placed in a central location, allowing for a spacious main lounge and living room connected that had been two separate rooms on the High Chaparral. The 65.22 meter (about 200 feet) Trident holds 39,100 gallons of fuel and 7,650 gallons of water. It has a speed of 16 knots. It has an elevator allowing passengers to travel through the whole yacht level by level to the sundeck. ConclusionFeadship yachts are internationally recognized and are staying on the cutting edge of yacht building technology with their fiberglass and steel yachts. They have an illustrious history dating back generations. It has survived the test of time, conflicts (e.g., wars), and economic struggles. It is still putting out about 3-5 megayachts each year. |
