Derecktor1 ReviewIn 1947, Robert Derecktor founded a small shop in New York with a goal to build high-quality yachts. Since then Derecktor Shipyards has expanded to include three separate facilities in New York, Connecticut, and Florida, and has emerged as one of America’s premier manufacturers of luxury super-yachts. Derecktor uses a variety of materials, from aluminum to titanium and latest-technology composites, to construct their yachts. In addition to crafting customs boats such as the Cakewalk V, an 85-meter yacht which is the largest built on American soil since 1930, Derecktor also builds more utilitarian boats. Their boats include ferries, fire boats, and police patrol boats. Derecktor’s attention to detail has also made them a major destination for boat repairs and overhauls. The company’s Connecticut facility recently opened an expanded dry dock capable of handling 4000 tons and vessels up to 400 feet long. Derecktor, in competition with several European companies, recently landed the contract for refits to the famous Mari-Cha III sailing yacht. The Mari-Cha III sailed from Europe to begin the repairs at Derecktor. Today, the company continues to maintain high standards in the world of luxury super-yachts, using beautiful designs and the latest technology, while also constructing capable, high-quality utilitarian yachts for a variety of jobs. |
