Baglietto Yachts ReviewPietro Baglietto was the founder of Baglietto shipyard and he was only around the age of thirteen when he started making small dinghies and fishing boats in a shed by the sea. Pietro soon began constructing pleasure crafts, but was very attracted to the great races that were held in England, France and America. In 1891, Pietro has an opportunity to modify a prominent racing yacht called the Miss Mary and transforms it into something great, a champion craft. Throughout the 1900’s marked the beginning of the ‘automotive boat’ appearances, which were considered to be the first of the motor boats in Italy. Baglietto shipyard launched the largest cruising yacht with a combustion engine and auxiliary sail that had ever been seen in their country. Baglietto went through a period in 1915 of principally engaging in production of some government commissioned boats like the MAS and seaplanes. The MAS was an anti-submarine type of motor boat that was a small, but fast armored torpedo boat that was used during the WWI and WWII periods. As the 1980’s were approaching, Baglietto shipyard begins to utilize aluminum and other cutting edge solutions, such as the hydro jet propulsion that was first used on the Chato. Performance had been improved once again in allowing a motor yacht of 25 meters to go speeds up to 62.5 knots. Baglietto has two separate shipyards now. One of them is located in La Spezia and concentrates primarily on military vessels, fast ferries and luxurious mega yachts that are over 40m. The other shipyard is in Varazze and that is where the fast motor yachts that are up to 40m are constructed. The shipyard areas are capable of maintenance and refitting work on vessels of any kind up to 65m, so virtually any repairs can be done in their facilities.
