Nordic Tugs Yachts Shuts Down

The yachting industry is one of many that have been hit hard by the recession. Recently, the yacht manufacturer Nordic Tugs Yachts has shut down temporarily. Like many other yacht manufacturers that were doing well before The Great Recession, Nordic Tugs has seen a steep decrease in sales since and has been forced to take action. The company is still keeping a skeleton crew so that the plant is ready if business starts to pick up.

Award Winning Yacht Will Debut in Australia

Yachting enthusiasts who are fans of Fairline Yachts will get to see the Squadron 65 and the Squadron 78 CUSTOM at the Club Marine Mandurah Boat Show in Western Australia. Launched last year, the Fairline Squadron 65 flybridge motor yacht has won many awards such as ‘Motor Boat of the Year’ for flybridges over 55 ft. One of its distinguishing features is a ‘hi-lo’ bathing platform in the aft cockpit. The Fairline Squadron 78 CUSTOM is a production flybridge motor yacht that can be tailored for the customer and is extremely spacious. The Club Marine Mandurah Boat Show will be taking place on October 8-10.

Family Completes Voyage Around the World

A Lithuanian family has recently accomplished the feat of sailing around the world. Andrius Varnas, his 28 year-old daughter, and her boyfriend finished the voyage in two years and two weeks. Andrius is an experienced yachtman who built their yacht, Ragaine II, a 10 meter-long yacht. His daughter, Rasa, has been sailing since her teens and was the captain for the trip. The crew practiced sailing safely, taking their time, and studied yachting along the way. Before sailing in a region known for piracy, the crew arranged to sail in an international, U.S.-led military flotilla, which kept them safe. After completing the journey, the family encourages other families to also try sailing around the world safely. Yachting enthusiasts can learn about different yacht types like ocean yachts.

Superyacht Primadonna Launched by IAG

IAG Yachts, a Chinese shipyard founded in 2005, has recently launched their first superyacht. The 38.8m Superyacht Primadonna is a IAG127 model. Modern and sleek, the superyacht has received a highest-class notation. The spacious exterior boasts a spacious garage, wide decks, and a large swim platform. The interior features the most luxurious furniture and details. Run by two Caterpillar C32 Acert main engines, the Superyacht Primadonna can reach a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots. She also includes top entertainment systems and noise and vibration reducing elements. IAG’s first superyacht will be featured at the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Dutch Teenager Sets Sail On Trip Around The World

Earlier, 14 year-old Laura Dekker received a lot of attention when she got the approval to attempt sailing around the world solo. Her original plan was to start her first leg from Portugal, but due to age restrictions, she went to Gibraltar instead. The Dutch sailor has had a smooth first 48 hours and is currently sailing to the Canary Islands. While sailing on her 37.5 feet, red Jeanneau yacht, Dekker plans to stop at dozens of ports to visit family and catch up on schoolwork. Flying Yacht May Become Reality

Technology is always evolving and people are always looking to push the limits. Although it is only a design at this point, the “Flying Yacht” has received a lot of attention from engineers and aircraft designers. Designed by Yelken Octuri, an interior cabin designer for Airbus, the 46-meter “Flying Yacht” has four 40-meter masts that can be adjusted and lowered to become horizontal wings. With two main decks, the design of the exterior is futuristic and the interior is luxurious and modern. Octuri exhibited his designs at Paris’ Air and Space Museum. Some may be skeptical, but Octuri believes that with technical changes, this flying superyacht could work. In the meantime, there are many different yacht types such as motor yachts available on the market.

Top Sailors Racing at Detroit Cup

The third annual Detroit Cup is beginning at the Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit. It is one of three races that make up what is known as the East Coast Trifecta. Twelve Grade Two sailors from the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Brazil, Denmark, Russia, and New Zealand will compete. Defending her title will be Anna Tunnicliffe, an Olympic sailing gold medalist. Races will be ongoing through Sunday and are open to the public. Those who are interested in sailing yachts or other yacht types may be interested in checking out this race.
