Since being founded in 1989, Garmin International has gained respect for their high-quality communication and navigation devices. Their radar dome is a must-have for anyone wanting to navigate their yacht effectively. Let’s take a look at some of the features offered with the Garmin Radar Dome.

Most radar domes offered by other companies require a separate processing and display unit. This is not the case with domes offered by Garmin. The radar dome features an internal digital signal processor so you don’t need a separate unit. All data is displayed on their Marine Network GPSMAP 3000 series chartplotter/multifunction display.

Garmin’s radar dome also features manual and automatic sensitivity controls. You have tuning controls that can control sea clutter, gain and rain clutter. This will prevent you from having to tune the radar so you can spend more time navigating your yacht. Nearby radar transmissions also don’t present a problem, because the unit features selectable interference rejection.

Another useful feature of the Garmin radar dome is the fact that you can overlay radar images on your chartplotter display. You can also split the screen in case you want to view the overlay and normal radar at the same time. You also won’t have to worry about other boats colliding with your yacht. The Mini Automatic Radar Plotting Aid feature gives you the ability to track the course, speed and bearing of up to 10 targets.

The package includes everything you need to get started. You receive a hardware mounting kit, a marine network cable measuring 15 meters, cable connector kit, cable grommet and cable holder. With plug-and-play capability, your radar dome will be up and running on your yacht in no time. Garmin offers two separate models to choose from. The less expensive design only costs approximately $1,560, while the more expensive model will cost you $1,800.
